This qn is similar to a common type of qn such as...
If A buys 10 pears, he'll have $4 left.
If he buys 15 pears, he'll need another $6. How much money does he have at first?

To buy another 5 pears (ie15-10), A will need to spend the excess of $4 and need another $6.
Therefore 5 pears cost $10.
1 pear = $2
At first A has 10x2 + 4 = 24.

If still unsure, using solution to work through the problem should help.
