I don't know how to do the whole of Question 12. I have trouble finding the fractions in the part (a) especially.

Nothing wrong with the answer and pretty standard presentation... although most students would write out decimal answers after using rhe quadratic formula. If you can't follow.. you (Nigel) should strongly consider hiring a tutor to explain to you, in person.
