8. The total perimeter is just 4 x length of the rectangle.

Try comparing the lengths of the small sections on each side of the rectangle. You will see that they add up to the full length of one rectangle.

Alternatively, notice that the 4 dotted lines
are not included in the perimeter. Each dotted line has the same length as the breadth of a rectangle.


So perimeter for figure

= perimeter of 2 rectangles - perimeter of 4 dotted lines

= perimeter of 2 rectangles - 4 breadths of a rectangle

= 4 lengths of a rectangle.

9. Notice that the length of 1 rectangle is
equal to 4 breadths of the same type of rectangle.

So, find the breadth of 1 rectangle first.
