You can think of it this way :
After giving $50 to Bert,
Abel and Bert have the same amount of $. So their difference is $0.
So before giving Bert $50,
Abel has that amount of $ + $50
Bert has that amount of $ - $50
Their difference is now $50 x 2
= $100
If you would like to visualise using a model,
Add a small box to your model A and label it $50.
Draw a small box of the same size inside model B. Draw it on the rightmost side. Label it $50 as well. But change its sides from solid lines to dotted lines.
After giving $50 to Bert,
