a) In order to win the match in only 3 sets, he has got to win the first 3 sets.

Probability = 0.6 x 0.6 x 0.6
= 0.6³
= 0.216

b) To win in 5 sets, consider the following cases.
(W represents win, L represents lose. 1st to 5th match is from left to right)

① WLWLW
② WLLWW
③ WWLLW
④ LWLWW
⑤ LWWLW
⑥ LLWWW

For each of these cases , the probability is the same. It is = 0.6³ x 0.4² = 0.3456

Required probability
= 0.3456 x 6
= 0.20736
≈ 0.2074

c) To win in more than 3 sets, there are two types of cases : win in 4 sets and win in 5 sets. (We have already calculated the latter)

To win in 4 sets, there are 3 possibilities.

①WWLW
②LWWW
③WLWW

Each of these scenarios has the probability
0.6³ x 0.4 = 0.0864

So the probability for all
= 0.0864 x 3
= 0.2592

So , required probability
= 0.2592 + 0.2074
= 0.4666
≈ 0.466
