Every hour, Mr Chua travels 15 km further than Miss Rani.

In 9 hours,

15 km x 9 = 135 km

In 9 hours, Mr Chua has travelled 135 km more than Miss Rani. This also means that in 9 hours , Mr Chua has already reached Poo Poo City, but Miss Rani is still 135km away, and thus has 135 km more to travel.

We know she took 12 hours to reach.

12 - 9 = 3

She took 3 hours more to reach. In that 3 hours, she travelled 135 km.

So her average speed = 135 km / 3 h
= 45 km/h

So for a),

Distance between two towns
= 45 km/h x 12 h
= 540 km/h

For b),

Mr Chua's speed = 45 km/h + 15 km/h
= 60 km/h
