Hi
= 2 x radius of the quarter circle + 17cm
Breadth of rectangle
= 2 x radius of quarter circle + 3 cm
Difference between length and breadth
= 14 cm
Question says ratio of length to breadth
= 12 : 5
→ treat length as 12 units, breadth as 5 units.
So difference between length and breadth = 12 units - 5 units
= 7 units
7 units = 14 cm
1 unit = 14 ÷ 7 = 2 cm
So length = 12 x 2 cm = 24 cm
2 x radius of quarter circle = length - 17 cm
= 24 cm - 17 cm = 7 cm
Radius of quarter circle = 7 cm ÷ 2 = 3.5 cm
Alternatively, breadth = 5 units
= 5 x 2 cm = 10 cm
2 x radius of quarter circle
= breadth - 3 cm
= 10 cm - 3 cm = 7 cm
Radius of quarter circle = 7 cm ÷ 2 = 3.5 cm
Part b) should be easy now
