Total pieces = 60
Draw a model.
Split the $5 model into 4 small parts and shade 1 part as used.
Split the $10 model into 1 big part and "4 pieces"
Notice that 3 small parts in $5 model is equal to the big part for $10 model. So it can be taken as 6 parts.
Do you see that 7 parts is 60-4=56?
1 small part is 8.
So he has 8x4 = 32 $5 notes
8x3 +4 = 28 $10 notes.
He had $160 + $280 = $440 at first.
