One Answer Below
Anyone can contribute an answer, even non-tutors.
It's about energy conservation and calculations
Energy can be stored and transferred. It cannot be created or destroyed. The total energy of a system stays the same.
2a) Work is done when a force that is applied to an object moves that object. The work is calculated by multiplying the force by the amount of movement of an object (W = F * d)
2b) The final energy of the ball bouncing back to a portion of its original height will be higher as it still contain some gravitational potential energy when its still in the air however compared to the ball which is dropped and makes a crater in the sand below the energy here has already been dispersed out into the sand hence there is zero energy left.
2c)The work done for both the ball are the same as both balls undergoes the same forces and distance traveled when dropped from that height.
