Let number of boys at first be 4 units.

¼ of the boys left → 4 units - 1 unit
= 3 units remaining

Number of girls remaining = number of boys remaining = 3 units

125 - 20 = 105 = number of girls remaining + total number of boys at first

= 3 units + 4 units
= 7 units

1 unit = 105 ÷ 7 = 15

Number of girls at first
= 3 units + 20
= 3 x 15 + 20
= 45 + 20
= 65

Alternatively, number of girls at first
= Total number of girls and boys at first - number of boys at first

= 125 - 4 units
= 125 - 4 x 15
= 125 - 60
= 65
