One way is to do your typical addition working.


Another way goes like this :

For 4 ◆ 10 ,

It's 4 + 44 + 444 + ... + 444 444 444 + 4 444 444 444

1. There are ten 4's in the ones' place.
So 10 x 4 = 40
Write a 0, carry over the 4 to the tens' place.

2.There are nine 4's in the tens' place.
So 9 x 4 = 36. 36 + 4 that was carried over = 40
Write a 0, carry over the 4 to the hundreds' place.

3. Repeat this until you reach the 4 in the billions' place (there's only one of it)
