Notice that the area below the dotted line is the same in both Rectangle A and Rectangle B.
Since the shaded rectangles are identical, it means the unshaded area below the dotted line for A and B are the same.
In Rectangle A, do you see a unshaded rectangle with width of 10cm, and a unshaded rectangle of width 9cm?
Their lengths are the same. Their lengths = the total of the widths of two shaded rectangles = the width of Rectangle A/B.
(Rotate/redraw the shaded rectangles in Rectangle A, and compare to Rectangle B)
