Let y = (x² - x + 1) / (x² + x + 1)

Group all the terms to one side, so the other side is 0.

since x is real, the roots are real.
Since it's a quadratic equation, the discriminant ≥ 0.

So b² - 4ac ≥ 0

Eventually you will get

(y -1/3)(y - 3) ≥ 0

Then it can be deduced that 1/3 ≤ y ≤ 3
