t + $184 + t=$840
2t = 656
t = $328

4nc = 512
c = 512/4n

1n(c+50) = 328
1n(512/4n +50) =328
512/4 +50n = 328
128 +50n =328
n = 4

He bought 4 wallets.

Check:
Each wallet cost c+50 =512/4n +50 = $82
Total cost = 82*4 =$328
Each tie cost $32
