hi thanks for the answer ! may i ask why is it that the number of moles in h2o is divided by the number of moles in CoSO4? thanks !!

You could use x/y or y/x. Since its one compound of fixed formula, the mole of each atom/ion is fixed. For example, when dissolved in water 1 mole CoSO4 produles 1 mole of Co2+ ions and 1 mole of SO4 2- ions. Similarly, 1 mole of S04 2- ions contains 1 mole S atoms and 4 moles O atoms.
