a) The interest is in annum so time should be per annum too, hence 18 should be 1.5 (18 months is 1.5 yers)

I checked with a few school teacher friends. Seems simple interest does not follow real life. Assume all questions for simple interest are prorated. Thus, for this question, use 1.5 years to get an answer of $75 for part a).
