since application of integration = area/ volume under graph, and this question is asking for area so yes it is a type of application

Hmmm for the second part I feel it's necessary to show that y is a decreasing function therefore we can say that y(n) > y(n+1) then we can proceed to show the inequality. But since it's only 2 marks I think we can assume it from looking at the graph drawn for us.
