-7 is out of the range. Thus -6 is the correct answer as not only is the smallest value, but it is within the range

assuming you managed to get -2 sqrt 10 < b < 2 sqrt 10:
-2 sqrt 10 = -6.32...
so the closest integer to -6.32 is -6
your answer (-7) would have surpassed the lower boundary of -2 sqrt 10 (as seen from the number line) and so it is wrong.
