Since A is made up of 63u and 27, and A sold 5/9, that means he sold 35u and 15, he is left with 28u and 12. 5/9 of 27 is 15, 4/9 of 27 is 12

Alison baked 27 more tarts than Betty. If Betty has 63 units, then Alison will have 63 units plus 27 tarts. Then Alison sold 5/9 of her tarts, which is 35 units plus 15 tarts. She is left with 28 units plus 12 tarts. Hope this explains.
