Only did half way. But the train of thoughts is clear. Hope it helps. The solution should be x=2. Observation on the graph shows there should only be one such point. There might be other 2 real roots (i doubt so) for g'(x)=0. You can check with your graph calculator. Cheers.

To get a better idea of the distance^2 function graph, further differentiate g(x), i.e, g"(x) = 12x^2 +2 =0 don't give any real roots. That means there is no local max or min along the graph. It helps to verify that x=2 is the only solution.
