What is the meaning of common factors?

For example,
12=1x12 so 1 and 12 are factors of 12
12=2x6 so 2 & 6 are factors of 12 also
12=3x4 so 3 & 4 are factors of 12 too!
So factors of 12 include
1, 2, 3, 4, 6 and 12
8=1x8=2x4
So factors of 8 include
1, 2, 4 and 8

Ooops my multiplications on 2x there I missed.. .
2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 40, 42... so on.
