By substituting p=2^x at the beginning, you simplify the equation into a nicer looking quadratic equation.
Once you get the roots, substitute p=2^x back into the equation.
Not sure if you’ve learnt imaginary numbers, iirc it’s a JC topic so the second root should be undefined..?
