Let Kim be K, Mei is M, and Yanti is Y.
(equation 1) K+M=Y+220
(equation 2) Y+M=K+140
(equation 3) K+Y=500
You can use these equations to solve simulatenously.
So you are finding for M.
Step 1: Add equation 1 and 2.
K+M+Y+M=Y+K+220+140
Step 2: Simplify the equation
K+Y+2M=K+Y+360
Step 3: realise how K+Y appears on both sides? Since they are the same value, we can take them out of the equation.
2M=360
Step 4: 2M was simplified from M+M, so we will open it up again.
M+M=360
Step 5: remember we are only looking for one M. So divide the number by 2.
360/2=180
And that's my guess at the answer.
(technically don't need equation 3)
