Because the 2 triangles are the same (identical), and they are overlapping each other in the diagram.. So that's why there are 2 portions of the unshaded area.. But u only need to find 1 portion. It is clearer if you draw it out again.. Imagine the triangles moving to form a rectangle perfectly.. That's a clue why they are identical too
