or you can expand the whole thing into (x^0.5) - 2(x^1.5) + (x^2.5) and then differentiate.

You should get 0.5(x^-0.5) - 3(x^0.5) + 2.5(x^1.5)

You should get 0.5(x^-0.5) - 3(x^0.5) + 2.5(x^1.5) .

It is easier that way
