Why frictional force is included

Frictional force acts between two surfaces in contact. Steel cable is in contact with the load and crane. If without frictional force, the steel cable cannot hold the load, the load will slip.

There contact between the steel cable and the load. If there is no frictional force present, the steel cable would not hold the load.
