The assumptions are the wind will increase or decrease the speed of aircraft according to the wind speed and wind direction and the aircraft turns immediately at White City (180 degree turn) with the wind not affecting the turn at all.

- speed of the aircraft can be calculated as a vector sum of the speeds of the wind and the aircraft in still air
- no time is taken for the aircraft to switch direction to fly back to Sandy Land from White City
