(a) is a trick question since 1.78 x 10^1 is 5 orders of magnitude smaller than 5.6x10^6 and thus negligible
i.e.
17.8+5.6x10^6 = 5.6x10^6
i.e.
17.8+5.6x10^6 = 5.6x10^6
