Please help me with this question. Unable to get the answer with my working:
15R + 20H = 50 ---- [1]
Total amount of money Patrick = $U
15R + 20H + H = U + 0.9
50 + H = U + 0.9
U - H = 49.1 ---- [2]
R + 15R + 20H = U - 0.4
R + 50 = U - 0.4
U - R = 50.4 --- [3]
[3] - [2]
H - R = 1.30 --- [4]
[4] x 20
20H - 20R = 26 ---[5]
15R + 20H = 50 ---[1]
[1] - [5]
35R = 24
R = a long decimal number which is obviously wrong.

I've been trying to solve it since the time you posted and I kept arriving at the same answer as you. Maybe our answers are correct...

So it was an error in the question as I noted yours showed that 15 rulers and 20 highlighters were bought at $54 instead of $50. Thanks!!
