Peter = p cards
Ravi = r cards

If Ravi gave Peter 28 cards therefore

Peter = p + 28 cards
Ravi = r - 28 cards

Since both have the same equal number of
Cards after that therefore

P + 28 = R - 28

So P + 28 + 28 = R

R= P +56 ( Equation 1 )

So if Peter give Ravi 42 cards, Ravi will have 8 times more than Peter therefore,

Ravi = R + 42 = 8 x P - 42
: R +42 = 8(P - 42)
: R + 42 = 8P - 336
: R = 8P -336 - 42
: R = 8P - 378 ( Equation 2 )

Substitute Equation 1 into Equation 2

Therefore P+56 = 8P-378

378 + 56 = 8P - P
7P= 434
P =434/7 = 62
Therefore Peter has 62 cards initially

To find out Ravi’s cards (R = P+56 ) based on Equation 1 therefore,

R = 62 + 56 = 118 cards

Ravi has 118 cards initially
Peter has 62 cards initially

So total cards would be 118 + 62 = 180 cards
