Could u kindly advise me how to derive the answer of 105square cm without making assumption that there is a similar equilateral triangle directly opposite of the existing shaded equilateral triangle ? Thanks !

Since the question already state that the triangle is equaliteral,you should use the information.So the triangle is not by assumption,it is by fact.

Draw a straight line from the intersecting of the two quarters, to the top and bottom left corner of the square respectively, this 2 lines are also the radius of the quarters. It then form a equilateral triangle within the shaded region in the right, same size as the one to the left. It is not an assumption.
