Hi, I still dont understand why
need to take
(2x2x6 + 2x4) subtract - (1 - 2x2 x pie x 0.25x 0.25)?

Also how did you get 6m for length of footpaths? Are each of the rectangular footpaths the same length?

Thanks

#1
full path area
pink+yellow
= 2×(2×6) + 2×4 = 32 m²
right?

#2
for evey 1 m², there r 4 stones(4 circles)

and

1 m²
= uncovered + 4 stones

so in every 1 m²
uncovered
= 1 - 4×π×0.25²
= 0.2146

#3
total uncovered area
= 32×0.2146
≈ 6.9 m²

Can PM me @ 96633258 if you still don't understand
