You can write m = -4, k = 4.

You can actually write any combination of m and k that satisfies the following conditions: (a) m should be a negative value since curve y2 is an inverted U-shaped curve (b) k must be a positive number since the y intercept of y2 is in the positive y value range (c) your chosen m and k values should give you 2 roots, where the positive root is smaller than 2 and the negative root is greater than -3.

I’m not sure if the marking scheme will mark for meeting condition (c) but I’m flagging it out just in case. Anyways, m = -4, k = 4 will be an appropriate answer for you to give.

Hi sorry, I just saw that this is Sec 2 Maths, you probably haven’t learnt about roots yet, so condition (c) might be hard for you to understand. So you can just think of roots as x-intercepts of the quadratic curve, so if you were to solve the quadratic curve -4x^2 + 4 you will get 2 solutions, x= 1 and x= -1. These two values are your x intercepts or roots. Basically condition (c) is saying that your positive x intercept should be smaller than 2 and your negative x intercept should be greater than -3. Hope this clarifies!
