Idea is to work backwards.

Since at II there is a scaling of factor 2 in the direction of the y-axis,

Scale by ½ to reverse this.

y = 6 cos x → y = ½(6 cos x) = 3 cos x

Next, I mentions a translation of π/4 units in the direction of the positive x-direction.

To reverse this, translate π/4 units in the other direction (negative x -direction)

When you translate in the negative x-direction, you do an addition to the x term.

y = 3 cos x → y = 3 cos (x + π/4)

Therefore,

h(x) = 3 cos (x + π/4)
