1 - 3/7 = 4/7

4/7 of the remaining nougats were left.

But question also says 4/9 of the nougats were left. (This is referring to the total nougats)

Since both numerators are the same, we use the equal parts concept and look at the denominators

Total nougats = 9 units
Remaining nougats = 7 units

Clara must have gotten: 9 units - 7 units = 2 units

2 units = 8
1 unit = 8 ÷ 2 = 4

Nougats given to Vanessa = 3 units
= 3 × 4
= 12
