No.of Nuggets cooked : No.of Chicken Wings cooked
8 : 3
Each child received 5 nuggets, 2 chicken wings
Ratio of nuggets : chicken wings received = 5 : 2
The simplest ratio stays the same when we consider the total number of nuggets vs total number of chicken wings they received.
Total nuggets the children received : total chicken Wings they received
5 : 2
Since all the chicken wings were given out and there were 9 nuggets left over,
the total number of chicken wings cooked is equal to the total number of chicken wings the children received.
We should make the units the same for chicken wings for both ratios. Then compare the units for nuggets.
Lowest common multiple for chicken wings is 6
2 × 3 = 6
3 × 2 = 6
So,
Total Nuggets : Total Chicken Wings
8 : 3
↓×2
16 : 6
Nuggets the children got : Chicken Wings they got
5 : 2
↓×3
15 : 6
We can see that the difference between the total number of nuggets and number of nuggets given out is 1 unit. (16 - 15)
This 1 unit is the 9 nuggets left over
1 unit = 9
Total chicken wings = 6 units
= 6 × 9
= 54
If there is 1 child,
Nuggets he/she got = 5
Chicken wings he/she got = 2
Ratio of nuggets to chicken wings
= 5 : 2
If there are 2 children,
Nuggets they got = 5 × 2 = 10
Chicken wings = 2 × 2 = 4
Ratio of nuggets to chicken wings
= 10 : 4
= 5 : 2
If there are 3 children,
Nuggets they got = 5 × 3 = 15
Chicken wings = 2 × 3 = 6
Ratio of nuggets to chicken wings
= 15 : 6
= 5 : 2
