Work backwards. They had the same amount at the end. So each had $75.15 at the end. This is also 3/5 of what Ben had after Ali gave him money (since Ben gave 2/5 to Ali).
So 3 parts that Ben has, minus 2 parts that Ali got from Ben = 1 part.
1 part = 1/2 of what Ali kept at first.
75.15 ÷ 3 = 25.05.
25.05 × 2 = 50.10
Ali had $50.10 at first.
150.30 - 50.10 = 100.20
Ben had $100.20 at first
