# of columns = # fig
(not difficult)
# of rows
tk example of Fig 3
(3 is odd number )
white = grey
⇨ for ODD number fig
white = grey = (n+1)÷2
chk
when n=1
w=g=(1+1)÷2=1
when n=3
w=g=(3+1)÷2=2
...
based on this clue
# of rows
for EVEN number fig, it can be derived from ODD gif number
w = n÷2
g = w+1
chk
when n=2
w=n÷2=1
g = w+1 = 2
when n=4
w=4÷2=2
g = w+1 = 3
(b)
n=15
# of rows
white = grey = (n+1)÷2
= 8
15×8 = 120 (Ans)
(c)
w=80÷2=40
g = 40+1 = 41
80×41 = 3280 (Ans)

Thank you and best regards.
The way I see the pattern is the total number of squares being the pattern number multiplied by the next higher integer.
The number of white squares is the pattern number multiplied by the order of the pattern number as an odd or even number. So 15 is the 8th odd number, so we have 15 x 8 = 120.
In even rows, the white and grey squares simply share the total number of squares evenly.
