If use your suggestions, x and 44-x. Hope this helps

Just to clarify, why your working is x*4? (Total perimeter is x). Because I use x/4 which is the perimeter of small square to find one length, after times 2 to find the area. Can I use this quotation to solve. (x/4)*2 +(44/4 - x/4)*2 = 65
I use length of small square as x. Perimeter= 4x.
U can use perimeter as x too
(x/4)² + (44/4- x/4)² = 65
x²/16 + 121 + x²/16 - 5.5x = 65
Multiply 16 throught out the equation.
x² + 1936 + x² -88x = 1040
2x² - 88x + 896 = 0
÷2 through out the equation
x² - 44x + 448 = 0
(x-16) (x-28) = 0

I know is square because I don’t how to key square (2). My is question is why not divide by 4 because x is the total perimeter of the whole square. Your working is x times 4 for total perimeter.
I think, I understand. I try working out. Thanks.
I use length for small square = x, so perimeter = 4x
Thanks for your guidance.
