This is a science question right? I think you should put this: Air takes up space so the cup cannot completely fill with water. Not completely guaranteed that you will get full marks, though.
bii) Air occupies space in the glass and prevents most of the water from entering it. However, as air can be compressed, a bit of the water will be able to enter the glass.
