for this type of question, just need to enter the values into your GC & let the GC calculate everything for you.
in the TI-84 GC, select "STAT" "EDIT" & enter no. of stars & frequency into L1 & L2 respectively.
thereafter, select "STAT" "CALC" "1-Var Stats"
make sure you have ...
List : L1
FreqList : L2
then select Calculate.
under "1-Var Stats",
the 4th line S-x is the estimate of the population standard deviation; this is NOT what you want.
the 5th line, sigma-x, is the sample standard deviation = 1.2536...; this is what you want.
if you want to try to calculate it manually, make sure you use the formula for standard deviation of sample, which is slightly different from formula for estimate standard deviation of population.
