Looking at the formula (an^2 +bn) and sequence (5,9,13,17) given

Using formula: when n= 2,
Sum of first two numbers
= a(2)^2 + b(2) = 4a +2b

Using the sequence given (5,9,13,17)
The sum of first two numbers
= 5+9 = 14

They both represent the sum of first two numbers of the sequence. Hence, 4a + 2b = 14 (shown).
