Hi I’m confused why the product only have 2 carbons when it’s started out as a butyne which is 4 carbines right?

Just like, for example, I can write "the sum of all whole numbers from 1 to 100" as
1 + 2 + ... + 99 + 100
without having to write every single number in the list.
