Because NH4Cl can decompose under heat to form NH3(g)and HCl (g) of which both are colorless gas

Ammonia gas will react with HCl gas to form white solid Ammonium Chloride. Note that Ammonium Chloride is a solid that sublime to form ammonia gas and HCl gas.
