The amount of John's savings was twice the amount of Rodney's savings. If John were to give $25 to Rodney, Rodney's savings would become thrice as much as John's. How much did John have at first?

J:R:T = 2:1:3 = 8:4:12

in the end
J:R:T = 1:3:4 = 3:9:12

change
8-3 = 9-4 = 5 untis → $25

8×$25÷5 = $40 (Ans)
