Have you tried the question before asking?
a)For every 12 blue pens Ricky must buy 12 red pens
A set of 12B costs $20.40 and 12R = $8
20.4-8= 12.4
99.2 / 12.4 = 8 sets
8 sets of 12B+12R = 96+96=192pens

b) 1 B costs $6.8/4
1 R costs $2/3
6.8/4 divide by 2/3 = 1.6*3/2=2.4 times no. of red pens
2.4/(2.4+1)=24/34=12/17

Hi thank you so much for your valuable time,I tried and got b)3/5 but answer is 51/71.plz can you guide me , whether answer sheet wrong
Hi Sandy, the answer sheet is correct upon checking. By common multiple of $6.80 and $2 =$34, spending $34 on blue and $34 on red in total you will get 20 blue and 51 red
51/(51+20)=51/71. This might be a more suitable trial and error method during exam.
Using calculation:
cost of red / blue
cost of B = 6.8/4=1.7= 17/10
cost of R = 2/3
cost of R/B = 20 / 51
Ratio of number of R:B = 51/20
fraction of R = 51/51+20= 51/71
51/(51+20)=51/71. This might be a more suitable trial and error method during exam.
