Realise that Sharon spent $2 more than Lynn each day.
After 1 day, their money difference is $2.
After 2 days, their money difference is $4.
After 3 days, their money difference is $6.
And so on.
So, their money difference is $40 at some point in time. We can see that
40 / 2 = 20
so it takes 20 days for Sharon to spend all her money and for Lynn to have $40 left.
Sharon must have had 20 x $6 = $120 at first.
So does Lynn.
Their total amount of money at first
= $120 + $120
= $240
