Find X/Y = ratio X : Y

See 3 Answers

X/3 = Y/6
X/Y = 3/6 = 1/2
Therefore, ratio
X : Y = 1 : 2

Could you explain, how you bring X/Y=3/6

Thank you.

Alternative, but closely related, line of thought

x/3 = y/6
2x/6 = y/6

Then of course the numerators are the same.

2x = y

y is twice of x

So, ratio y : x is 2 : 1
And ratio x : y is 1 : 2

Using AC Lim’s approach,

x/3 = y/6

If we perform cross multiplication,
6x = 3y
2x = 1y

If we do cross division (read up on it),
x/y = 1/2

So the ratio x : y = 1 : 2
