Why make each part equal to 3 units?

2 parts left is equal to 3 tenths of the original sum. 2 cannot be divided by 3.

Make each part into 3 units so that 2 parts = 6 units.

6 units is equal to 3 tenths of the amount.
6 units can then divided by 3.
1 tenth of the amount is 2 units.
