8 3/4 = 35/4 if you convert the mixed fraction into improper fractions.

A/4 + A = 8 3/4

But we know that A/4 + A/4 + A/4 + A/4 = A. It’s given in the question.

So,

A/4 + A/4 + A/4 + A/4 + A/4 = 8 3/4
A/4 + A/4 + A/4 + A/4 + A/4 = 35/4

You can see that there are five of the “A/4” so it becomes 5 times A/4.

5 times A/4 = 35/4

What is 5 multiplied to so that we can get 35?

You will get A = 7. See if this makes sense.

This question is unusual and quite difficult for a P4 student. Where did this question come from?
